WHAT IS PRAISE?

What is praise?
Is it raising my arms?
Is it clapping my hands,
singing a song or swaying along?
Is it jumping for joy, shouting amen,
keeping a beat or moving my feet?
What is praise?


What is worship?
Is it bowing my head, being quiet and calm,
standing to pray or repeating a phrase?
Is it speaking strange words, eating strange bread,
kneeling on queue or drinking some juice?
What is worship?


What if my body is no longer strong?
What if my thoughts are addled and wrong?
What if my voice can no longer ring?
What if my heart is too sad to sing?
Can I praise You? Can I worship?


If my heart says, "I love you” is that enough?
If my mind knows your promises is that enough?
If my soul feels your presence is that enough?
Are you still near?
Do you still hear?

You say your spirit will cry out for me
You know my heart and who I want to be.
You say to give you all that I am
my thoughts, my deeds, my fears, and my pain.
Is that my praise?
Is that my worship?
